About
Nunny TV is an innovative, award-winning community media project run by North East Lincolnshire’s Library Service. Based at Nunsthorpe Library, we provide a range of stills and video cameras for the public to borrow as well as professional digital editing facilities.
Beginning in April 2007 as a Neighbourhood Renewal funded project, Nunny TV had a number of aims.
- To provide the tools and training to the community, enabling them to make short films, video diaries, news bulletins, reports and mini-documentaries about their opinions, concerns, interests and passions.
- To broadcast community films in a variety of ways, through social networking sites, internet and community television, or through the production and distribution of DVDs.
- To help people of all ages to learn transferable skills through fun and creative media projects.
- To promote an active interest in what’s going on within the community by encouraging people to provide content for Nunny TV, a magazine style show looking at local events and issues.
- To promote North East Lincolnshire’s library service to a wider audience.
In our first year we had over 300 adults and 200 children involved in media projects. We worked with local schools, community groups and individuals to create a wide range of films looking at a variety of issues, the highlight being a sexual heath film produced with local teenagers being used as part of an NHS Choices campaign.
We had numerous work placements arranged with Nunny TV through local schools, colleges and employment agencies, and recorded a 30% increase in the uptake of library services.
Nunny TV was proud to be amongst the winners of the national ‘Libraries Change Lives’ award.
Since funding has ceased Nunny TV has developed a commercial side, enabling us to become sustainable. With a background in community television and commercial media production, Nunny TV provides professional video services for the local authority, business and third sector organisations. Our clients have included Trading Standards, Libraries & Museums, VANEL, Dee Bees, Children’s Services and many others.
We operate on a not-for-profit basis, reinvesting any funds we raise back into local community projects.
